The staff of Advancing Suicide Prevention brings much to their work with this magazine. Their experience includes award-winning professional achievements, and relevant personal experiences including family members, friends or acquaintances who have mental illness and/or addictive disorders, some of whom have died by suicide. Denise Pazur Senior Editor Denise has over 15 years in print and web-based journalism, marketing and public affairs. As former managing editor and contributing writer for the federally-funded Preventing Suicide/The National Journal, Denise provided direction, leadership and content including cover stories on alcohol and suicide, and suicide among military soldiers and veterans. While a journalist with the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Denise contributed over 60 stories including pieces on drugs and youth, race relations, and a cover story for the newspaper's Sunday Magazine on Cleveland's homeless families. Denise has worked with a Maryland-based telehealth firm to develop strategic content for an NIMH-funded suicide prevention website. She has also managed communications projects for multinational corporations and firms in the non-profit, consumer packaged goods, professional sports, manufacturing and service sectors. These include Kimberly-Clark/Huggies, Johnsonville Sausage, The Green Bay Packers and American Red Cross Blood Services. Denise holds a B.A. from Ursuline College in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a member of the American Medical Writers Association. Hervey Evans Circulation Director With over 20 years experience in magazine publishing, Hervey has developed and implemented growth strategies for a host of publications in diverse arenas. These include Science & Spirit, The Tracking Way, Sunday/ Monday Woman, Adoptive Families Magazine, Chemical Pilot Magazine, Experience Life Magazine, Roadside, and The Riverbank Review. As corporate circulation director for Cowles Enthusiast Media, Hervey managed direct mail promotion, fulfillment operations and financial planning for this Pennsylvania publisher of 17 enthusiast magazines. A former general manager for the Illinois-based Carus Publishing Company, Hervey managed a staff of 18 in the Cricket Magazine Division, and also launched Ladybug magazine for Carus. As general manager and publisher for The Hazelden Foundation Publishing Group, Hervey established and led working teams for the world's largest non-profit publisher of chemical dependency materials. While manager of single copy sales for Lark Communications, Inc., based in Asheville, North Carolina, Hervey developed retail sales of consumer crafts magazines and books via national distribution agents and specialty store channels. He holds an undergraduate degree in English and Economics from Duke University, and and an M.B.A. from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hervey is a member of IPA (Independent Press Association) and SNAP (Society of National Association Magazines). Ann Bernard Copy Editor With over 12 years in editorial production of print, broadcast and online communications, Ann has guided content from manuscript through final stage for magazines, newsletters, annual reports, marketing materials and special projects. Ann's first-rate editorial guidance and fact checking ensure that style, tone, accuracy and overall integrity of editorial content are maintained. She has worked in concert with award-winning editorial teams and art departments to refine top-quality, error-free copy for Fortune 100 companies and has participated in premier projects for Harley-Davidson, Sargento Foods, The Green Bay Packers and Briggs & Stratton, among others. |
